ABOUT
Unmasking Evil
Unmasking Evil is a dark storytelling and commentary project about crime, human nature, and the choices people make when the light side fails them. Built through Texas‑based thrillers, eerie fiction, and feral life lessons, it’s for readers who prefer honesty over comfort — and villains over fairytales.
What began as crime fiction has grown into something larger: a place for stories, observations, and aftermath. The motel theme across this site isn’t decoration. It’s a framework — a way of sorting what people bring with them, what they leave behind, and what refuses to check out when the night is over.
Some stories circle the motel more than once. Some arrive through guests. Some through witnesses. Others through casework tied to Detectives Loretta and David Smitty, whose investigations tend to leave longer shadows than most. When business is slow — which it often is — management writes. The books you’ll find here are reconstructed from records, recollections, and cases that refused to stay where they started.
Created by Loretta & David Allseitz, Unmasking Evil blends psychological crime fiction with sharp observations about survival, morality, and the lies people tell themselves to get through the day. These stories don’t offer clean justice or easy answers. They live in the gray areas, where silence can be an accomplice and doing the “right thing” often comes with a cost.
Loretta & David are the authors of A Texas Thriller of Murder and Betrayal, crafting unsettling, atmospheric stories rooted in small towns, long shadows, and the aftermath people try to outrun. Their work focuses on tension and psychology rather than shock — letting unease linger long after the final page.
